My little food for thought for this evening:
If you’re going through a bit of a hard time right now- hey, we all go there!- remembering some of these simple yet sometimes ‘easier said than done’ ideas may help:
(theres kind of a lot in there…. I went a bit rant-o-rama)
- Look after your health. Good food, bit of exercise, bit of relaxation to keep yourself in balance.
- Reach out in even tiny ways to help you feel less alone. If you’re laying in bed feeling depressed try texting a friend asking their favourite flavour milkshake or something. That sounds banal yet seriously, striking up even the silliest of conversations can be a real shake up (in a good way).
- Express emotional pain creatively. Whatever it is that you do- painting, music, writing, dress making, dog sock knitting- just pour your emotions into it and tell yourself that no one else is EVER going to see this. Don’t worry about it being shit! It’s purpose is to give you some release, not to be brilliant. Worry about that another time.
- Talk to your Mum.
- Talk to your Dad.
- Cry on someone’s shoulder.
- Cry on your teddy’s shoulder if you need to.
- Remember to treat yourself with respect. And hold your head high. If you must keep but one thing, keep your dignity.
- Make good choices for yourself.
- Have a hot bath with lavender oil.
- Buy new socks and undies. ~~~the difference is amazing~~~
- Let go of something you know you’ve held onto for too long.
- Watch a documentary on something you find really interesting. (try documentaryheaven.com if you haven’t discovered this treasure trove already!)
- Buy yourself something small that you can get excited about! I’m a sucker for new nail polish, a book, or iced coffee.
- Do something for someone else.
- Watch a movie you haven’t seen since you were a kid.
- Take a drive to somewhere scenic near you.
- Put some money away for that crazy dream of yours.
- Make a new month/season resolution.
- Catch yourself when you’re making an excuse and stop. Legitimate reasons are a-ok, excuses are not. Take responsibility for yourself and just do the best you can!
- Take up a new hobby- even if it’s tiny cause money can be tight! I am currently on the journey to becoming the next sudoku master ;)
- Forgive yourself.
- Forgive others.
- Try your best to be present.
- Clean/tidy your space.
- Meditate, baby.
- Breathe deeper.
- Listen to your favourite song.
- Pray if you want to.
- And just remember to value yourself as you would a best friend. Things don’t happen for no reason, and keep your focus on what you’re learning.
- And remember that you are so, so loved.
